Paper to Paper Bead Idea #6

Posted on Nov 1, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations, Paper To Paper Bead Ideas | 6 comments

What kind of paper makes nice paper beads?  Texture, prints, text, glossiness and most specially color!  Yes, to me it’s texture and color mainly.  The battery for my flip video camera came and with it is the Instruction Guide in beautiful turquoise.  My husband said “Oh good you are reading the manual”  my daughter quipped ” she’s not, it’s paper bead potential” 🙂  I saw 8 mm turquoise beads in perfect blue color, glossy and just the right thickness.

Paper Rope

Posted on Oct 22, 2010 in Other Crafts & Crafty People | 4 comments

Paper rope has been around for centuries and in some culture plays an important role in daily activities. Koreans has perfected paper making from mulberry tree and a bride is presented with paper jar made by twisting paper into a rope and is made strong and water proofed by combining a mixture of unripened persimmon juice, rice glue and perilla oil. Ann, of All Things Paper  talks about this on her blog. My sister will be participating in upcoming CHA Winter Show and one of the products that will be showcased is the paper rope. She sent me a few samples which will be going in my Etsy Shop.

The choices for color combination is almost endless….

I couldn’t wait to try and make something with it; crocheted coasters, earrings, baskets ……

Small round paper beads were incorporated into the paper rope.

The thought of just recycling paper and cut less trees is appealing, I just love the idea of recycling paper into handmade paper. Hmmm…….so many craft ideas, so little time 🙂

Tutorial On Bamboo Roller

Posted on Oct 3, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 1 comment

The craft of making paper beads has been around for a long time, dating way back in the Victorian era when ladies would sit in the drawing room making paper beads out of discarded wall paper.  I love the fact that anyone can do it with materials that you already have at home.  I’m sure many of you has made some using tooth pick, skewers, nails, needles, knitting needles etc.  The paper bead roller tool that you can find everywhere just makes the job easier.  The bamboo roller that we have after a few tweaking is one of my favorite tool.  I love the fact that it is made of bamboo and that it feels good on the hand.  Here’s Kayla showing you how to use it:

You can make any bead color you want and mix it with other beads.  We have made this bracelet in jade color, and all you really need is paper, glue and glaze!

It is a very engaging craft, it is not only relaxing but also meditative!  Definitely jewelry making on a shoe string.

Believe it or not I hardly wear anything else but paper beads jewelry.

You can take it up a notch and mix it with crystals and gem stones.

Chocolate and Mint

Posted on Sep 28, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 9 comments

You marry chocolate and mint and what do you get? Refreshingly cool bracelet!  Kayla made the paper beads out of scrap booking paper, the color of mint with a smattering of browns.  I love how they came out in perfect uniform shape.  This is one design where simple is beautiful.  The paper beads almost look like jade and in fact it is that color.

This is strung on a beading wire and finished off with copper magnetic closure to complement the disc shaped wood beads.

This is what I love about paper beads, you can make them in any color you want!

I am so sorry if it seems like I am neglecting the Paper Bead Trade,  just kind of in the middle of a lot of cool stuff, so many projects so little time.  I want to email everybody including those who were in the last bead swap in case they are not aware of what is going on and post more sample “fall(ish)” paper beads.

Upcoming posts Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?  Which means pink beads!
