Paper Beads Hemp Jewelry

Posted on Feb 12, 2010 in How-To's / Tutorials | 3 comments

I had to see the movie Avatar, just to look at the nature inspired jewelry worn by the characters in the movie.  I searched on etsy and true enough, there is a lot of  the Avatar movie inspired necklaces that came up and hemp is the stringing material mostly used to give it that organic look.  I wanted to practice the macrame technique on hemp before making our own version of the Avatar necklace.  Kayla, came up with this macrame necklace with our large round paper beads. I took a step by step photo of her doing it, if you need a more detailed instruction you can find it here.

You take Four Strands of Hemp (small size), the two inner strands (base strands) a little over  the length of your necklace or bracelet, and the two outer strands would be five times the length of your inner strands.  You would then tie a know to a jump ring and tape it onto a surface.  When you are more familiar with the pattern you can just hold the strands in you hand.

Put the right strand over the base strands and under the left strand.

Fold the left strand over the base strands and under the right strand.

Then put the right strand under the base strands and over the left strand, then pull into a knotl.

You get the twisted pattern by repeating the same pattern over and over again.  You will then insert your paper bead in the two middle strands.

Just repeat the same knot until you get your desire length.  The paper beads are perfect for this because they have big holes enough to accommodate the two strands of hemp.

The bracelet was made with one big round paper bead and smaller round paper beads around it.  Both necklace and bracelet are finished off with magnetic clasp.

Posted on Jan 29, 2010 in How-To's / Tutorials | 3 comments

I had a tutorial on the ladder bracelet using wire and showed the how to steps with pictures.  I want to make it easier and this time did a video, I learned a lot by watching other people’s video.  This style is great for the one inch tube paper beads or 3/4 inch paper beads you have.  It displays your nice beads well on your wrist.

Knotting With Paper Beads

Posted on Jan 21, 2010 in How-To's / Tutorials | 4 comments

Putting knots in between beads is the technique used in stringing expensive pearls because it is secure and decorative at the same time.  I like to use knotting with paper beads, just as I like to use it with pearls and gem stones.  Knotting with paper beads or pearls is a very relaxing and enjoyable endeavor once you get the hang of it.  For this project, I use different shapes of paper beads: olive-shaped paper beads, diamond shaped paper beads and the cone shaped paper beads with crystals and glass beads.

Materials are: assorted paper beads, #6 or #5 silk cord (color of choice), clam tips, G-S Hypo Cement or clear nail polish, and magnetic clasp.

Main tool is a pair or tweezers.

It goes without saying, that techniques shown here can also be applied to any other beads.  I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

Space Them Out With Paper Beads

Posted on Dec 16, 2009 in How-To's / Tutorials | Comments Off on Space Them Out With Paper Beads

When I feel I need a little “pick me up”, I paint my nails fun colors.  Last night, I decided to take a break from my projects, watch tv, eat dessert and do my nails! So, as I was helping my self to a box of pastries and painting my nails, I thought that the golden yellow color would look nice on paper beads, and the box has a perfect texture for paper beads.  Gone was my intention of not making any paper beads.

And the box of patries

I cut the flap on the box, the whole box can make lots of beads.

I marked the lines 1/4 inch apart and should look like this.  I cut them up into strips and I used the metal paper bead roller

To make things easier for me and for you most specially, here is a video

Here is the finished spacer paper beads.

How are you going to use your spacer paper beads?  Let’s meet up here tomorrow and let’s see what I have come up with.
