I love the new shapes of paper pea pods, I still marvel at the idea that they are shaped to look like a cocoon and can actually hold little treasures or mementos. It can be many things; a prayer box or pod, a good luck horn, a wishing pod, how about a worry pod – you can write your little prayers, wishes and worries on a little piece of paper and tuck it in there. I think it is a great gift idea, don’t you think?

I made this pendant for my son, to wish him good luck and wrote some encouragement on a piece of paper. He likes whimsical characters so included a dragon charm. The evil eye is to ward off bad spirits.

The smaller pea pods are great as pendants, the bigger one can be a car charm hanger.

Possibilities are endless……

I am very impressed with one of my readers Charlene, not only does she make jewelry out of her paper beads she thought up of a way to make hang tags from coffee bags, what a nice touch! I like the recycle logo idea with words and beads inside the transparent tag, if I were the recipient I will be thrilled. Hmmm…an idea for a swap, what do you think?

In Charlene’s own words “……….here are my pics. Just scrap magazine paper rolled up!!
now the tag is made from a coffee bag (back side) front side is just some clear??? scrape
stitch together to make a little “tea bag” with little words, beads, and the recycle logo from a can. Think of it as a tag with a window! Also the necklace is going to be packaged in a ice cream jar. I thought I would keep with the recycling theme.”

The nice thing about it is you can reuse the tag and whoever you are giving it to can do the same thing. It is made out of sturdy material that can withstand mail and handling.

I love the olive shaped paper beads as well, it is pretty in it’s “randomness”

I have to make some, just in time for gift-giving.
We are gearing up for the upcoming Craft and Hobby Association Winter Trade Show to be held in Los Angeles this January 29th. We are trying to come up with new designs, new shapes to be introduced at the show. One of the new things is what I call Paper Peapods or Memory keepers. I do not have an official name for it yet…..

When I first got this, so many things I can do with it comes to mind. They come in beautiful colors.
Hopefully in my next post I will be able to show you finished pendants

I am launching Kolek’ems today! What are they? They are paper gems bracelets. I likened them to a gem because just like a gem these paper bead bracelets are precious and something to treasure and keep. Each one of them are hand cut, hand rolled and hand varnished to a glossy finished that makes them water resistant. Not only are they so well made, the colors are as vibrant as the magazine pages that they came from.

In-between paper beads are little coordinating seed beads, you don’t need anything more the beautiful pattern of the paper speaks for itself!

What a great way to show your “green” side, This would be pretty by itself or mix with your other jewelry.

The colors are just beautiful and vibrant!

Want to make a statement? Stack them up 🙂

More, Kolek’ems to come.
Read MoreCitrine is one of my favorite gem stone, I love the yellow-brown color of the stone so rich almost like gold. It also happens to be the birthstone for the month of November and the accepted gem for 13th and 17th wedding anniversary. It is just the perfect back drop of the paisley paper bead that Kayla made. The finished Paper and Gems Set necklace and bracelet is indeed fit for a wedding anniversary.

The reddish brown garnet chips also complements the citrine and paper beads. You would be surprised to find that the gem stones in chips form are not that expensive but elevates paper beads as an elegant piece of jewelry.

A two strand bracelet to match

It is definitely casual chic!

What do you do with your paper beads?
