Ribbon Necklace and Earrings Set

Posted on Apr 5, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 1 comment

The nice yellow and orange colors of these small round paper beads, has inspired Kayla G to make this beautiful earrings and necklace set.   Each paper bead is just wire wrapped to dangle on a chain.

Each paper bead is put on the head pin and wire wrapped to the chain.

The same thing with the necklace, you determine how long you want it to be, your pattern and attach the dangles to the gold chain.

The ribbon ends were wire wrapped with 24 gauge wire (any end finding is also recommended) and attach it to the chain.  This looks very nice in the back.

She added glass flower beads, I think fabric flowers or ribbon flowers would also look adorable.

Round Paper Beads

I get asked a lot about how to make the paper bead more round – the best way to do this is: Make long strips of triangle 1/2 inch wide at the base of the triangle.  How do you make a long strip of paper?  You can do this by joining the magazine pages together by gluing them at the edges or use a really long paper like wrapping paper.  I take my measurements by using a yard stick, if you don’t have one, just use a long piece of straight edge wood.  Keep in mind that the result would vary depending on the texture or how heavy the paper you are using.  I would suggest to just experiment on the paper you have available.  There is no wrong or right way to do this, I love the different shapes that come out every time, AND I like to be surprised!

Here’s an example of round paper beads that I just strung on elastic and mixed them with Chinese crystals, they are not that expensive and goes well with the paper beads.

Long strip of paper about 36 inches

I then, rolled the long strip of paper using the metal paper bead roller.  It came out round, don’t you think?  I was so happy to see my roses in bloom again, hello Spring!

These are examples of necklace and bracelet sets we have made in the past.  They are just strung on elastic and mixed with crystals.  These are great projects for a beading party or “paper beading party” as I would call it  – all you need is elastic and paper beads.

How To Make Round Paper Beads / Metal Roller

Posted on Dec 10, 2009 in How-To's / Tutorials | 7 comments

I get emails from paper bead enthusiasts on how to achieve a more round paper beads.  So, here it is a vlog I think would explain it best plus a few photos.  Materials are: metal roller or bamboo roller (either one can be purchased at aubreysbeads), Judikin’s Diamond Glaze but you can also use any decoupage medium or mod podge and glossy magazines or catalogs.  Tip:  Rounder (fatter) bead uses a longer strip of triangle paper, magazines usually are 15 inches wide when it is opened, you need to use two of these by gluing them together.

Next step is then to mark both ends, how wide is the base of the triangle determines how big or how wide is your bead.  For the diamond shaped paper beads it is 1/2 inch wide for the smaller round beads it is 1/4 inch wide.  I am showing the illustration on white paper so it shows better.

I used the rollers that we carry in our online shop, but of course you can use whatever you have available, to achieve a smaller hole these tools are great for that.  We actually sell them as kits with strips of paper and glue.

Finally Scrapbooking with Paper Beads!

Posted on Nov 19, 2009 in Other Crafts & Crafty People | 1 comment

I have a guest blogger today.  Kayla, loves to scrapbook and incorporate a lot of paper beads into her jewelry.

I have found that most people who craft and make jewelry also dabble in scrap booking. Making art out of memories is so much fun.  I love going through all of my pictures, giving me the opportunity to reminisce on past memories I have made over the years. Scrap booking is like creating a your own little book that displays different parts of your life in fun, creative and cute ways.

I got the urge to scrap book and since I am always trying to come up with new ways of using paper beads, I figured why not incorporate them into my next scrap booking project? So I did!

I decided to make a page dedicated to my parents for their 25th Anniversary. I took an old picture of them, back from the 1970’s and used it as my center piece.

I created a theme by finding different patterned paper, that somewhat had a 70’s vintage look and went on from there. I picked out the perfect strand of  Diamond Shaped paper beads, which consisted of brown, burgundy, blue, pink and creamier colored beads, that went absolutely amazing with my scrap booking paper. I then took 4mm white ribbon and stitched the paper beads about 1/2 inch from the edge and around the background paper.

After I added a few cute knick-knack objects to help accent the page to give it a more romantic feel/look.

I then took small Spacer Shape paper beads and glued them on at random using a hot glue gun.

In the end, I found that the paper beads really helped add to the 1970’s look I was going for. I am genuinely pleased with how this design came out. It helps demonstrate how paper beads can be used in many different varieties of creative activities.
