Paper Rope

Posted on Oct 22, 2010 in Other Crafts & Crafty People | 4 comments

Paper rope has been around for centuries and in some culture plays an important role in daily activities. Koreans has perfected paper making from mulberry tree and a bride is presented with paper jar made by twisting paper into a rope and is made strong and water proofed by combining a mixture of unripened persimmon juice, rice glue and perilla oil. Ann, of All Things Paper  talks about this on her blog. My sister will be participating in upcoming CHA Winter Show and one of the products that will be showcased is the paper rope. She sent me a few samples which will be going in my Etsy Shop.

The thought of just recycling paper and cut less trees is appealing, I just love the idea of recycling paper into handmade paper. Hmmm…….so many craft ideas, so little time 🙂

A Paper Bead Wreath

Posted on Sep 9, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 1 comment

When I saw the white paper rope, I thought it would be a nice canvass for the colorful paper beads of different shapes and size.  I love working with wire, twisting and wrapping, just letting your imagination go wild.  I did not have a pattern for this necklace or wreath, I made this with left over paper beads.  I treated the paper rope with Vibrance and it made it more durable and stiff.

I used round small paper beads, olive shape and tiny paper beads – I strung them on a 28 gauge craft wire and just twisted them to form leaves, buds and flowers.

They look pretty as a necklace or even as a crown I would imagine.

You can use a heavier gauge wire like 20 gauge instead of the paper rope.

What a nice way to display those vibrant colorful beads!
