Pink Bracelets

Posted on Oct 11, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 3 comments

October, happens to be breast cancer awareness month also and pink is their color! My sister Joann has been making pink paper beads out of Avon paper catalogs which is just appropriate for making pink color jewelry.  It is just the perfect color of pink and mix with crystals, they are a girl’s best friend 🙂

I made this bracelets using fire polished crystals in ice pink and is available as a kit.

It is just strung on quality elastic, and the ice pink crystals brought out the beautiful pattern in the pink paper beads.

It is a great present for someone whose life one way or the other is touched by cancer.

Birthday Tiara

Posted on Oct 10, 2010 in Events and Experiences, Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

I normally don’t celebrate my birthday, but this year I did with friends and colleagues.  We started the day making paper bead tiaras, food and lots of dessert in between and ended it with karaoke singing.  It was a lot of fun and I wish you were there too.

blog1

The tiaras were made from found objects, cut out cards, crystals and of course paper beads of all sizes.

October’s birth stone is pink topaz or rose zircon.  I think this is why October is breast cancer awareness month.

Thank you for all the birth day wishes, truly appreciated.

Memory Wire Bangle

Posted on Oct 7, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 15 comments

The memory wire is great for fast and easy bracelet that looks like you have spent hours doing it.  The only hard thing about it is that you need a heavy cutter or memory wire cutter to cut the wire DO NOT use your regular wire cutter or it will damage it.  Here is a three loop memory wire bracelet using brown olive shaped paper beads.  Kayla just strung them at random but it will be nice also if you actually have a pattern.

blog1

Here’s Kayla showing you how:

You can see above that we did not put anything on the loops.  It is nice to hang on some charms to it or dangle a crystal.

blog2

Another idea is to do 7 loops or more!

blog3

What do you think?  If we decide to make the memory wire bracelet instead of the Paper Beads In Orbit bracelet, I am sending you the pre cut memory wire in your kit.

blog4

Tomorrow is my birthday, I am turning ‘ty three 🙂  I will be celebrating it on Saturday with colleagues from work and we will be making tiaras!  We’ll see how this will turn out.

Wearable Art

Posted on Oct 7, 2010 in Other Crafts & Crafty People | 4 comments

Wikipedia, the web based encyclopedia defines wearable art as; individually designed pieces usually hand made clothing or jewelry created as fine or expressive art.  The term wearable art implies that the work is intended to be accepted as a serious unique artistic creation or statement. Wearing paper bead jewelry is certainly making a statement: Beautiful and unique conversation pieces jewelry made out of recycled magazines!  Four ladies responded to the challenge, to send me a photo of themselves wearing the paper bead jewelry they have made.

In Kathy’s own words: “The beads in the necklace and earrings are made from black and white security envelopes (the inner lining) – probably something that came with a bill inside!  The bracelet, and this is my favorite piece, is made from pages from Vogue magazine.  I used a page that was a fold out in the magazine (so it was double in width) and cut the base of the beads two inches wide.  The bracelet is strung in a ladder pattern using black elastic cord.  I wear a lot of black and white and designed this bracelet so that I could wear it with many different outfits.”

Claire, wore this piece with the big saucer bead to his brother’s wedding with black and white theme.  Claire is very crafty and I love checking out her blog as well.  You can see more of her creations on her blog papelhilo.

Here is Eveline of Timeless , she has a lot of cool paper bead jewelry ideas on her blog and here’s a video of her wearing her jewelry!  Did I tell you I love your accent Eveline?  🙂

Ashley, looks really cute with her paper bead necklace.  Good job Ashley, l love how that turned out, perfectly matched your shirt.

Last but not least is Sanja, wearing her long paper bead necklace.  I love long necklaces, they are so versatile you can double it up and wear it any way you want.

Cleo’s Cuff

Posted on Oct 6, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

I can imagine this bracelet on Cleopatra’s wrist sans the snake coiled around her arms.  I just love the chocolate brown color of the beads which makes me think of hot chocolate with marshmallows on top, but Kayla wants to call it Tootsie Rolls.  The paper bead tube measures 1 1/4 inch long and 1/4 inch wide, this makes this cuff big and bold fit for a queen!

blog1

I took a 20 gauge craft wire and coiled the ends to make it look like swirls and scrolls pretty much like the pattern on this scrap book paper.

blog2

I took an elastic and put it through the loops at the ends of the paper bead and tied a square knot.  In between are catheral 4 mm bicone swarovski crystals for sparkle!

blog3

Or, you could just do simple loops to put your elastic through.
