Vampire’s Blood Beads

Posted on Oct 29, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 1 comment

In the spirit of Halloween Kayla decided to make blood colored paper beads using nail polish.  Mixed with garnet fire polished  beads it looks vintage add beaded spider pendant, pretty scary don’t you think?

It is just scrap booking paper with the different color of reds and cut up into strips like this:

After applying glaze, paint it with red nail polish

It’s okay if you have some gob of nail polish to make it look like blood 🙂 Below are the materials; black bead caps, 8mm firepolished beads and scary looking spider

Paper To Paper Bead Idea #5

Posted on Oct 28, 2010 in Paper To Paper Bead Ideas | 8 comments

When you see me looking at a poster, most likely I am admiring the colors and texture of the paper.  There is always something going on in down town Glendora and we get fliers and posters of all sorts and this is one of them.  It’s so funny how Kayla and I gets excited about posters, junk mail and fliers.  Well, here’s why…….

blog1

Kayla got to work cutting them up in different size strips.

blog3

I love how they turned out, beautiful colors of merlot.

Paper Bead Trade Update: We are preparing the beads and the kits, hopefully to be mailed out on or before Saturday.  Unfortunately we cannot show you the bead soup mix because of our experience from last time where it was difficult to apportion the beads to everyone.

Vintage Look – Paper To Paper Bead Idea#4

Posted on Oct 27, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 11 comments

I thought the rhodium color bead caps and beads will go together with the poster board paper beads.  It gives it a vintage, antiquey look to it.  My inspiration for this design is an antique lamp in my living room – it is big and gaudy but I love the opalescent glass and the brass vines and flowers that surrounds it as you can see here.  Black lace or beige lace would go with this set.

The earrings are almost 3 inches long and you don’t have even to wear other jewelry when you don this on.

ablog2

The bracelet is just strung on jewelry grade elastic and the big holes of the paper bead hides the know really well, you can’t even tell.

I love dressing up and feeling glamorous on a shoe string, don’t you?

Any Paper To Paper Bead Idea anyone?  I would love to hear from you and share your work with everyone.

Paper To Paper Bead Idea #4 – Poster Board

Posted on Oct 26, 2010 in How-To's / Tutorials | 4 comments

Poster boards usually come in 22 x 28 size and they are great for making paper beads.  The fiber of the paper is strong and they make thick beads.  That being said, my Paper To Paper Bead Idea # 4 is white poster board.  I marked and cut the paper on it’s short end, with the measurement 1 cm by 22 inches long.  Part of the appeal of paper bead making is the unexpected out come, just like “a box of chocolates, you’ll never know what you’re going to get” right?

blog2

Triangle strips: 1 cm by 22 cm

blog3

I find the bamboo roller to work better with thicker paper because you can insert the strip of triangle in between the bamboo and then roll.

blog5

I was surprised of the outcome, it came out more like saucer shaped 5/8 of an inch in diameter.  I was hoping for a more round shape.

blog4

I love using nail polish for projects like bracelet and earrings because of the variety of colors and they always have fancy names, this particular nail color is “glass slippers” that just makes me smile.

blog6

I let it dry in front of an electric fan and coated it with Vibrance and let it dry again.  I brushed the glaze on instead of dipping it.

blog7

I made about 13 beads enough for a bracelet and maybe a pair of earrings.

blog8

It turned out really nice after all.  I took my beads into my studio and start looking for findings that will go well with it.  This is what I found, what do you think?

Friendship Beads Necklace

Posted on Oct 25, 2010 in My Paper Beads | 18 comments

Seeing all the beautiful beads in beautiful fall colors; pumpkin, spice, oranges and browns from places as far as Croatia and France each painstakingly rolled into a bead makes me think of them as Friendship Beads.  I counted seventeen participants including Ashley and Jennifer whose beads are being mailed as we speak.  I have shown you the Beads In Orbit and Memory Wire Bracelets as examples of what we can possibly make out of the trade beads.  Kayla and I look at the beads and thought that they would be displayed better in a longer necklace because of the different shapes and size of the beads.  Take a look and tell me what you think.

blog1

The necklace is about 48 inches long

blog2

You can wear it also doubled up like this

blog3

Since it is strung on jewelry elastic, you can also wind it several times on your wrist

blog

The necklace is highlighted with seed beads, crystals, buttons and wood beads

blog5

I think your necklace would look nice with all the fall colors.  Your kit would include:  jewelry grade elastic, seed beads, wood beads, buttons and of course the paper beads from all the participants.  Play with it, have fun with it add more beads from your own collection.

I want to be a gracious host, therefore,  I am giving you a choice in your kit: Memory Wire, Beads In Orbit or the Friendship Beads Necklace.  You can do so by leaving me a comment here.
