Paper Bead Tiara Giveaway- our 100th Post

Posted on Jan 4, 2010 in Events and Experiences | 35 comments

I don’t want to sound cliche but it’s true, it seems only like yesterday when I wrote my first post.  I feel like princess for a day, a Paper Bead Princess no less wearing a tiara made out of olive shape paper beads, wire and crystals.  We had a little tea party today with Kayla C. and Kayla G (I am lucky to have two creative Kaylas working for me).  I don’t want to sound like I just won the Oscars or something, but I do have a lot of people to be thankful for, because for the most part, this post is for them.

I am thankful for my husband Hany for being supportive while I do so many things at one time; making paper beads, crafting, posting on my blog, anything but housekeeping.  My sister Jo-Ann, she cho0se the paper and designs what shape or form to make for paper beads while Jun cuts the paper and designed the paper bead rollers.  My son Marco who is a constant inspiration and support even though he lives a thousand miles away.  Kayla C and Kayla G for coming up with fresh ideas each day.  Last but not least Garry Sullins who is responsible for our websites,  not only a colleague but a friend as well.

Having said all that, I would like to take this opportunity to tell everyone that to commemorate our 100th post, we are having a paper bead giveaway on February 1st-3rd to the first 100 visitors, so please mark your calendars.

Today, I am giving away the paper bead tiara seen here.  All you need to do is leave me a comment and tell me something about yourself and your favorite crafts and how did you come to visit us today.

Red Jasper and Paper Beads

Posted on Jan 2, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 4 comments

Red Jasper Cubes, wood beads and diamond shaped paper beads in brown tones go well together in this necklace and bracelet set.  I could just have made them without the paper beads and it would still look nice, but with the paper beads it becomes unique!  Don’t you think?  The paper beads I used for this set almost look like wood beads.  I give credit to my Jo-Ann, Jun and the rest of the “paper-beaders” who made them.

You can use other semi precious stones to go with whatever color or shapes paper beads you have, but you got the idea of mixing paper beads with semi precious stones or crystals.

I used magnetic clasp for both necklace and bracelet.

Coins and Paper Beads to Welcome the New Year

Posted on Dec 31, 2009 in Paper Bead Creations | Comments Off on Coins and Paper Beads to Welcome the New Year

My mother was a superstitious woman, she believed that what you do in the first day of the New Year determines what you do the rest of the year.  She made sure that we have coins in our pockets for example, and wear something with circles to symbolize money.  I always think about her mostly around this time, because she was a frugal person, she loves the thrift store and anything used or second hand.  I was at Joann’s Fabric the other day and these coin charms caught my eye.  I thought I would love to ring in the New Year with lots of coins and paper beads as a constant reminder to be thrifty, reuse and recycle.  I mixed olive shaped paper beads with the coin charms ($2.95) and some left over turquoise chips, the result is something like Cleopatra would have worn.  I put it on and I love the clinking sound of the coin charms just perfect way to usher in the New Year.

Posted on Dec 29, 2009 in Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

Here’s a follow-up on the Midas touch earrings, and a  how to on how I made the bead.  Ann of allthingspaper is right, I used the heat embossing tool (just discovered this nifty tool) and glue pad.  I am new to scrapbooking and this new discovery just open up more possibilities for me.  Anyway, here is vlog how embossing paper beads.

The materials are:  strips of paper from a card stock, tacky glue, metal paper bead roller, embossing powder, glue pad, piece of lace or fabric and a heat embossing tool.

Girl from Ipanema Paper Bead Earrings

Like the song, long and tan………. this dangly paper bead earrings will surely turn heads and you feel instant glam when you put it on.  I love how paper beads can take ordinary to extraordinary pieces of jewelry.  It is simple, chic and definitely makes a statement.  This pair is very simple to make:  Just take olive shape paper beads, softflex (any stringing material), seed beads, spacer shape crystal, crimp and earring finding.  String the paper beads and seed beads to desired pattern and crimp, you’re done.
