Repurposed Meets Recycled

One of my finds at the Pasadena Bead and Design Show were these vintage perfume bottles.  I just get drawn to anything old and antique, I always imagine what kind of person owned this piece and wearing them somehow transports you to that time and place.  I must have been one of those ladies in waiting in my previous life 🙂

blog1

I wire wrapped small round beads with rose quarts for the necklace chain, to have more of that vintage feel.  I can imagine the Victorian ladies rolling paper beads.

blog2

I love how this came out, specially when worn.

I added the feather and fan charms,  there is so much going on in this necklace.

Another day of turning ordinary to extraordinary!

Paper Beads From Shredded Paper

Posted on Aug 25, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

Thank you Elim, Ashley, Isabelle, Vicky, Melanie, Claire, Sara and Kathy for participating in our Black and White Bracelet Giveaway.  They are made out of shredded bank statements, sensitive files that my husband shreds when he is done with them.  It is fun looking through them, and now whoever is wearing this bracelet has some valuable information at least to me:)  Anyway, thank you for playing ladies.  And the winner is………….

blog5

I used to strips of the shredded paper for the beads.

blog6

For this project, I used the metal paper bead roller.

blog7

What is nice about the shredded paper is that they are cut with precision and when you roll them, they are all even and comes out uniform.

blog10

I drew out the winner the old fashioned way, still using the blank part of shredded paper.

blog8

Kathy, congratulations!  Email me your address and your prize will be on it’s way.  Thank you for new readers who left comments, Sara, Melanie and Vicky, welcome!

Posted on Aug 23, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 9 comments

It’s a beautiful Monday today, hence I decided to do a Give Away!  Leave me a comment telling me what it is made of, the kind of paper I used and we will pick out a winner on Wednesday.

blog4

The focal bead is black agate and the beads in between are hematite and daisy spacers.

blog2

It is strung on elastic and so it fits most if not I would be willing to adjust the size and I would even ship International to be fair to my readers far and wide:)

Paper Bead Tiaras

Posted on Aug 20, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | Comments Off on Paper Bead Tiaras

I call these “thrifted tiaras” because they are just made of paper beads (recycled magazines) and thrifted or found objects. I had so much fun making them and wearing them. Part of the fun is that they are free form, I did not follow any guide or pattern.

blog4

I just used 22 gauge gold color craft wire to string the paper beads and form a crown.

The filegree lucite pink earrings is one of finds at the Pasadena Bead and Design Show.  I think they just go perfectly together.

Easy Elastics-Glass Rings

Posted on Aug 19, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

If you want instant gratification, Paper Bead Elastic Bracelets are a a breeze to make.  If you are not into wire wrapping or any other form of  beading technique, but have the eye for color, stringing your paper beads in jewelry makers’ elastic gives your work a finished look.  I love these colored glass rings in big and small sizes because they are somehow made for my big round paper beads and diamond shaped paper beads for the smaller rings.

blog1

This looks elegant on the wrist.

blog4

The smaller glass rings were just perfect for the diamond shaped paper beads – which are actually made by gluing to strips of triangle pieces together.

blog6

I would love to wear several of these at the same time.

blog7

These big chunky paper beads are so much fun, you could still see the words in some of the beads.  I suggest to use a .7 or .8mm elastic for these projects.
