Delicious Paper Bead Lei

Posted on Jun 4, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

Lei is a Hawaiian word for anything strung together to be worn as an adornment.  The chunky paper beads in cream and reds inspired me to make this Paper Bead Lei and bracelet set to look like a yummy dessert much like one of these images I found on the internet.

Coco wood chips are strung on a beading wire with the chunky paper beads.

It also much resembled my all time favorite dessert, the banana split!

Say A Little Prayer Necklace

Posted on Jun 2, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 1 comment

I’ve made so many prayer boxes jewelry at one time but never made one with paper beads.  I normally just hang the little prayer box as a pendant or as a charm with nothing in it.  This time, I thought of putting a little strip of paper with a prayer, or a saying or a wish for someone you are giving it to, making it a real prayer box.  I then, hand knotted each paper bead for the rest of the prayer box necklace.  What is fun about this project is writing little notes into a strip of triangle paper and rolling it into a bead.  Now, you always have that prayer or wish close to your heart.

I cut the strip of paper 1/4 inch at the base and 11 inches from a printer paper and wrote:  “Lord help me to remember that nothing is going to happen today that YOU and I cannot handle.”

Using the bamboo roller, I rolled it into a bead, small enough to fit into the prayer box.

It is a cool kind piece of jewelry, don’t you think?

It looks nice by itself or layered with another paper bead jewelry.

I have made rosaries with paper beads as well, this will be in future posts, like what Kayla is wearing above.

I love the little prayer box that can also hold mementos from some special time….

Seven Days Elastic Bracelet

Posted on Jun 1, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 3 comments

We’ve made so many paper bead elastic bracelets because they are so easy to do and elastics just go perfectly well with paper beads because they have bigger holes that can accommodate the knot of the elastic and light enough, you barely notice they are there on your wrist.  With that in mind, I made seven strands of bracelets that is so fun to be worn together.  I used olive shaped paper beads and small round beads with seed beads in between.

blog1

It looks nice mixed with the small round paper beads or whatever other shapes you have made.

blog2

We chose black 6/0 seed beads to go with it, we thought it’s going to bring out the pretty color of the paper beads and some African trade beads.

blog4

We tied gross grain ribbon around it or you can just leave it as it is.

blog5

I don’t mind wearing two sets of these!  Ridiculous?  I don’t thinks so, it’s just another way of showing the green side of you 🙂

We will have another feature of a fellow-paper bead enthusiast and a how to on the paper bead cones, so stay tune.  Thank you for stopping by.

A Necklace Made from a Placemat

Posted on May 28, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | Comments Off on A Necklace Made from a Placemat

I love taking random items that I find around the house and making them into new, fun, creative works of art. It amazes me that a single, random item can be made into something beautiful and something so unexpected!! Kayla G made this necklace out of a placemat.

Would have never guessed, now would you?

She mixed the wooden bars from the placemat with x-small round paper beads.

It was a little tricky getting the necklace to curve at the neckline. Therefore she had to add more beads to the bottom row which helped the necklace to curve.

The necklace came out so cool. It had an earthy yet chic look to it.

Now that Kayla G has inspired you to make something out of something that you have laying around the house… What are you going to make????
