Birthday Tiara

Posted on Oct 10, 2010 in Events and Experiences, Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

I normally don’t celebrate my birthday, but this year I did with friends and colleagues.  We started the day making paper bead tiaras, food and lots of dessert in between and ended it with karaoke singing.  It was a lot of fun and I wish you were there too.

The tiaras were made from found objects, cut out cards, crystals and of course paper beads of all sizes.

October’s birth stone is pink topaz or rose zircon.  I think this is why October is breast cancer awareness month.

Thank you for all the birth day wishes, truly appreciated.

Tiara Fit For A Little Princess

Posted on Sep 27, 2010 in Events and Experiences, Paper Bead Creations | 5 comments

Last Saturday Lana turned a year old and I made her a little tiara made out of hot pink paper beads to match her tutu.  Her mommy did a good job with the tutu it was not scratchy as I thought most tutu would, they are actually soft as clouds, pink clouds that is 🙂

I made the tiara just using 24 gauge wire also with left over beads and crystals and just attached a store bought comb and painted it gold with acrylic paint to go with the wire.  Honestly, the grown ups had more fun than she did.

Am I becoming one of those grandmothers who bore others with pictures and little stories about their grand kids?  I think so, and I will make it up to you with an easy tiara tutorial which I am still trying to figure out up to now.  I mean the easy part:)

I certainly had fun making this tiara for her!  I must say she is rather carried it well, a true Paper Bead Princess.

Paper Bead Trade Raffle Drawing

Posted on Jul 30, 2010 in Events and Experiences | 4 comments

The Paper Bead Trade has come to an end, and it was such a nice experience – my very first Bead Trade.  In one of my posts I ask if there’s anybody who would be interested in hosting the next trade and I got an email from Karina, she has some neat ideas and a very cool theme, so why not?  Now that everybody’s got the paper bead fever…….in the mean time, Kayla, myself and my baby grand daughter Lana celebrated the end of the Paper Bead Trade by wearing our “thrifted tiaras” (soon will be on my etsy).

Here are the paper bead bracelet prizes:

School Supplies for Kids

Posted on Jun 30, 2010 in Events and Experiences | 5 comments

Every year in the month of June, I have pledged to donate school supplies for underprivileged Filipino kids.  Did you know that there are kids in the small provinces that go to school without the necessary school supplies?  Do you remember the feeling of opening a box of crayons that promises hours of fun and possibilities?  This would be another project for Christmas, coloring books and crayons.  With the help of my sister Joann and her husband Jun we distributed notebooks, pencils, paper and crayons to Filipino kids.

Paper Beads and Paper bead making has become a symbol for mostly women in Third World Countries to make a difference in their lives.

Paper Beads Making a Difference

I grew up in a small coastal town where my father served as a judge and remember going to school with children who are even sometimes bare foot.  I felt so guilty wearing my blue rubber boots with matching umbrella.  June is when the classes open and also a very rainy month.  So maybe, rain coats and umbrellas next year 🙂

To celebrate July 4th, I was planning on making something of red, white and blue (if there were more than 24 hours in a day), instead, here’s the Patriotic Ladder Bracelet I made last year and sold on etsy.
