Bead Rope Crochet

I have experimented using different kind of beads with bead rope crochet.  For those of you who may not be familiar with bead crochet, it is simply crocheting beads in the round by using slip stitch.  I have taught this form of crochet using 6o seed beads, but one day I thought I would try and use the 5mm paper beads which I received that day from my sister, and it was easy, light and works up really fast.  If I am going to be demonstrating on how to crochet with beads, the small paper beads will be a good beginner project.

I used the 5mm round paper beads, you will need about 216 pieces approximate.  If you decide to make the small round beads the metal roller with bamboo handle will be perfect for this.

When you feel you are up to a more advanced project, you can use other kind of beads even gem stones, take note that gem stones usually have small holes and you need to use thinner thread which could make it more challenging.  Here’s an example of bead rope crochet using carnelian.  When we are at the Pasadena Bead and Design Show, the booth next to us sells gem stones.  I picked up 6 strands of carnelian stones which I thought would look nice done in bead rope crochet.

I think it looks very pretty with murano glass that I was keeping for something like this.
