A Purple Heart- day 45

Posted on Feb 14, 2011 in 365 Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

A heart does not have to be red all the time, right?  I love the predominantly purple(ish) color of this glass heart pendant.  To make it even more special, I added painted bicone shaped paper beads to match to complement the colors.

What do you do when you have a focal bead and you don’t have the necessary components to go with it?  Paint the beads!

Wings Of Paper For Charlotte

Posted on Oct 13, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | Comments Off on Wings Of Paper For Charlotte

Frozen Charlotte’s are German vintage dolls that were dug up from a burned down German doll factory in late 1800’s.  You see them being sold at etsy, just type frozen charlottes and there’s quite a few of them that sells these.  If you noticed, the dolls have missing arms and legs and truly depicts the legend being told about the Frozen Charlottes:  A girl named Charlotte set out one New Year’s Eve night to go to a ball.  Her mother advised her to wear a wrap but she refused worried that her new dress might not be seen.  And so, she set off in a cold winter night on a sleigh with boyfriend Charles, who to his grief and astonishment found Charlotte frozen from the cold.  There you have the story.  I look at the doll and it’s angelic face and I thought that she definitely needed wings.  So here she is with wings fashioned out of small colorful round paper beads.

I took paper beads put it into a wire and fashioned it into wings.  Now, I am not that sad looking at the broken doll, I just made her into an angel 🙂

Wearable Art

Posted on Oct 7, 2010 in Other Crafts & Crafty People | 4 comments

Wikipedia, the web based encyclopedia defines wearable art as; individually designed pieces usually hand made clothing or jewelry created as fine or expressive art.  The term wearable art implies that the work is intended to be accepted as a serious unique artistic creation or statement. Wearing paper bead jewelry is certainly making a statement: Beautiful and unique conversation pieces jewelry made out of recycled magazines!  Four ladies responded to the challenge, to send me a photo of themselves wearing the paper bead jewelry they have made.

In Kathy’s own words: “The beads in the necklace and earrings are made from black and white security envelopes (the inner lining) – probably something that came with a bill inside!  The bracelet, and this is my favorite piece, is made from pages from Vogue magazine.  I used a page that was a fold out in the magazine (so it was double in width) and cut the base of the beads two inches wide.  The bracelet is strung in a ladder pattern using black elastic cord.  I wear a lot of black and white and designed this bracelet so that I could wear it with many different outfits.”

Claire, wore this piece with the big saucer bead to his brother’s wedding with black and white theme.  Claire is very crafty and I love checking out her blog as well.  You can see more of her creations on her blog papelhilo.

Ashley, looks really cute with her paper bead necklace.  Good job Ashley, l love how that turned out, perfectly matched your shirt.

Got Paper?

Posted on Sep 10, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

I buy and collect things simply because they appeal to me and I am pretty much sure that someday I will make something pretty with it.  I am definitely showing the signs of a pack rat, but if it means holding onto pretty things which I don’t have the heart to part with, then I am guilty as charged!  This pendant which I got from either Michael’s or Joan’s reminds me of my Indian friend and the sacred room where they kept religious objects.  Isn’t that one of the reason why you are attracted to something?  It reminds you of another place, another time?

One reason why it just sits in your drawer is that  it is hard to find something to go with it.  One day, I was at the scrap booking store next door and I found a perfect match for my goddess pendant!

Here’s what I did:  cut it up in triangle strips that measured 1 inch at the base.  Rolled it up with the paper bead roller, glued it together with white glue and finished it off with Vibrance.

I mixed it with round red paper beads, it’s a very simple design wire wrapped together using brass colored craft wire.

It looks nice worn by itself, simple and chic.  Who would think those are paper beads?  The eyes will just be drawn to the mysterious allure of the pendant.  If I remember correctly I paid $5.95 or something, I know it was not expensive.

Now, if you want to layer it with your other jewelry, it becomes even more fascinating.  Don’t you think?  This Layered Necklace certainly fits the description Casual Chic 🙂
