We are Going to the CHA!

Posted on Jan 18, 2010 in Events and Experiences | 2 comments

The Craft and Hobby Association Winter Convention and Trade Show is going to be in Anaheim, California and we’re going! It was a very last minute decision but we did not want to miss the opportunity since it’s here, less than an hour from us.  We are trying to raise funds for school supplies for Filipino kids and hopefully more jobs for women in the Philippines.  So, wish us good luck.

Anaheim Convention Center

Do you know that there still a lot of people not familiar with paper beads? We have a small space but enough for us to spread the word.  We are coming up with posters and banners that we can put up on our booth, and these images will be on it.

Morning Glory Paper Bead Necklace

Posted on Jan 15, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 1 comment

So, here is what I came up with the paper beads made from the paper printed with the beautiful sky image I aptly named morning glory.  I mixed it with fiery orange beads, purplish mother of pearl stick pearls and olive shaped paper beads in lavender and orange.

Here is the finished necklace, I wanted to use the gold filled chain for this necklace and just fashioned a fish hook from gold filled wire.

You can tell my models are not available today, so here it is worn on the neck.

You can wear this close to the neck as a choker or it’s full length of 22 inches.

I can certainly say, this is one of a kind.

Morning Glory- Art Imitating Nature

Posted on Jan 13, 2010 in Events and Experiences | 7 comments

A friend of mine sent me this image taken from his phone on his way to work.  Isn’t it beautiful?  This image was taken about a week ago at 6:30 in the morning in beautiful Glendora, California.  It was nice of Chris to share this magnificent photo with us, amazing what cell phones can do.

The beautiful colors of orange, purple and blues put together like that, only nature can do.  Morning glory, the flower came to mind and did some searching, look what I found?  Morning glory, kind of nature imitating nature.  You can find more images of flowers for inspiration, here.

Purple and orange are my favorite colors, I had to make paper beads with those colors, how?  I printed the image on a heavier than printer paper, I cut it in half and pieced them together to get longer strips of triangles.

I rolled the strips of triangles using the metal paper bead roller.

I coated each bead with Diamond Glaze, and let it dry.

The part I enjoy the most is making them into wearable piece of art.

Black and Beautiful Paper Bead Lariat

Posted on Jan 13, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 1 comment

One of the easier paper bead shape to make is the tube shape, one inch long x 1/4 inch wide. I make them with metal paper bead roller or the bamboo roller and I just get the perfect size hole.  I strung dark tone paper beads to about 55 inches of pleather cord held together by one single large hole bead.  I like the idea that the lariat can be worn in many ways, as seen here.

I’m sure it will be lovely in other colors.

Seed Pearls and Paper Beads

Posted on Jan 12, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

I love the shape of the Olive shaped Paper Beads and the neutral colors of this particular strands, it is such a lovely match for the olive shaped wood beads and the seed pearls.  I saw something similar on a popular tv show worn by supposedly the wife of a prime minister.  This, I think is even more special because I added paper beads into the mix.

Combine it with the Brown and Champagne color Seed Pearls for a three strand necklace.

I used Softflex in bronze color medium.

blog6

I fashioned the pendant out of 22 gauge wire and embellished it with pearls and crystal charms.

blog5

Is it fit for a wife of a Prime Minister?  I don’t know.  I would certainly wear it, with anything casual or dressy.

I hope I have inspired you today, to make something with paper beads.
