Stacking Paper Cones Necklace

Posted on May 18, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 6 comments

I got a shipment of paper beads from my sister Joann and it is always exciting and I always await with great anticipation, because I know that the paper beads will look different from the last time.  Each bead is hand rolled by Philippine women, so no two are alike.  I love the cone shaped paper beads, because they are rolled in such a way that words and phrases are visible on the base of the cones.  This is how the Stacking Paper Cones Necklace, came about..

They look so pretty stacked up like this:

As Seen In Beading Magazine

Posted on May 17, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | Comments Off on As Seen In Beading Magazine

One great source for inspiration and ideas is looking through beading magazines and there are several that offer how-to’s and tutorials.  I love collecting them and going through them once in a while.  I found an old article from Bead Style Magazine, their September 2003 issue on Eastern Influence Earrings.  While these are great pair of earrings I wanted to see them in paper beads.

Instead of the swarovski crystals I use the small round paper beads instead.

I got the gold discs on sale from Joann’s which is similar to what was used by Bead Style.

blog3

I was able to make four pair of earrings and a bracelet.

Paper Bead Curtains

Posted on May 14, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

I finally got the courage to take on a bigger project- PAPER BEAD CURTAINS!  This is where friends and extra helping hands come in handy.  I thought that an undertaking like this would be good if shared with others, plus it makes you finish your curtains faster.  Each strand is individually strung and you make enough strands to fill a door way or a window.  I made the strands 72 inches long, of course you can make it in whatever length.  I made the pattern simple with just the regular tube beads and the small round beads, you can make it all tube beads if you like.

Part One of the How-To Video

Here’s the finished curtain, it can certainly use more strands, I think.

Part 2 of the video when we were hanging it up!

We had fun trying to figure out how we were going to tie it, on which side…..

blog3

I love how it rustles when as you go through it

I know how big projects can be intimidating sometimes, I thought so too, but we actually had fun making it, we were so eager to see the results, that in itself was a big motivation.  We just transformed our doorway from ordinary to extraordinary!

XOXO Paper Beads Bracelet

Posted on May 13, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 1 comment

Here is a very simple bracelet made out of olive shaped paper beads that will introduce you to basic beading technique such as: using a beading wire and crimp and attaching clasp.  Kayla C. aptly named it XOXO bracelet, would be a great gift to a friend.  Now, that I’m thinking about it, the fuscia colored olive shaped paper beads will be ideal for this project, breast cancer awareness month I think is in October and this is a neat gift idea.

blog1

Here is the video tutorial!  Materials are: 14 strand stringing wire or medium, crimp bead, olive shaped paper beads, round beads and magnetic clasp.

blog3

We also did it in what Kayla called newspaper color, so organic looking as well.

blog5

If you make them in coordinating colors you can wear two or three at the same time.

What have you done with your paper beads today?

Paper Bead Pinwheels

Posted on May 12, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | Comments Off on Paper Bead Pinwheels

I have came across a pattern for making flowers called the Hana-Ami motif and you can find a simple step by step here. This design is so versatile that you can make it to look like a flower or something else, depending on the beads you are going to use.  I made quite a few of these small ones and big ones, the smaller ones using olive shaped paper beads in magazine colors but mostly white makes it look like pinwheels.  Now, I put them on anything; flip flops, hats, head bands and I am thinking on putting them on candles.

blog1

You can also connect them in whatever arrangement you want for a bib necklace

blog2

We used 8/0 seed beads to go in between and illusion cord or fishing line

blog4

Here it is as an earring.

blog5

Or as a headband, I just use hot glue gun to affix them into a store bought head band

Another day of taking the ordinary to extraordinary!
