Paper Bead Jewelry Designs and Ideas

Etsy Monday

I am listing three items of paper bead necklaces on etsy today.  I got inspired by one of our readers Sanja, who incorporates shells in her jewelry making.  I find free form wire wrapping to have really rewarding results and I have been doing a lot of wire wrap on shells which have irregular shapes.

Paper Beads can look like shells or wood beads and it looks pretty neat when paired with sea shells.

Do you know that Philippines has one of the most beautiful shells?  It is also know as the “Pearl of the Orient”.

Wire Wrapped Shells

The wire wrap I did in these shells are really simple, just a bit of practice.  I took a class once on wire wrapping and I just lost interest, it was so complicated and the heavy gauge wire is too hard for me to manipulate.  I am still thinking of how I can shorten the video without cutting the important parts of it 🙂

Kayla and I will be busy the next few days putting those kits together.

These funky looking, saucer shaped, button like paper beads came from my sister Joann and will be including some in your kits.  Yay! will be mailing the Paper Bead Trade kits on the 15th.  She tightly rolled strips of magazine paper in different size and thickness.

Kayla, incorporated it in a necklace that can be worn off on one side or the middle.

On one side, three strands of olive shaped paper beads are holding the saucer bead and on one side is just one strand.

I have received Hilde and Tina’s paper beads for the trade yesterday and will be posting that, hopefully I will get the rest tomorrow and Tuesday.

Beaded Paper Chains

Posted on Jul 9, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 3 comments

Don’t you just love paper chains?  You remember making them as a kid and the satisfaction you get when you see them getting longer and longer?  We have been making a lot of elastic bracelets and we just have a pile of them.  I was playing with them one day, and discovered that they make really nice and colorful chain links!  We made several of the elastic bracelets using small round beads and small olive shaped beads.

It is very simple to turn them into chains and here’s how I did it

This style of linking the bracelets into a chain is so versatile and a lot of possibilities.  Because there is no clasp involve, you just tie them with a ribbon for closure you can wear them several ways.

This would also be pretty as a belt.  The same necklace, we converted it into a bracelet.

You can use it as a hair scrunchie

I think it would work great as a head band also!

Soon, you might find this versatile way of turning elastic bracelet into beaded chain links in catalogs and stores!  Just say you saw it here first 🙂

Crocheted Balls

Posted on Jul 7, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 4 comments

One of my passions is crochet.  The only craft where I enjoy reading and following intricate instructions.  I remember first crocheting with my hand when I was six years old.  I crocheted over these wood beads, with cotton yarn and I thought they would go very nicely with paper beads.  Kayla, chose the beads to go with it and made matching earrings.  She used the medium olive size beads (1/2 inch long) in very nice tones of yellow and orange.

She used the red crocheted balls for this necklace.

Another nice addition to paper beads would be fabric covered beads.
