I had fun making this pendant, because it is one of those times where you don’t know where your creativity will take you. The small chains “dresses” up the purple bicone bead with “fruit like” accents on top.

One of the fun things Kayla and I like to do on a week end is check out garage sales in our area for some beads that we can “rehab” and incorporate with paper beads. This is one of our finds, vintage red beads with embossed flower and leaves design. The designs on the beads is we think Asian inspired and black and gold would look nice with it. Take a look:

We were debating on something with red paper beads or black paper beads.

Black, red and gold somehow spells Asian! Don’t you think ?

Gold daisy spacers just give it the right accent.

The vintage beads cost us a whole $0.25 for six beads, love garage sales and thrift stores!

Fabric covered wood and plastic rings are the inspiration for this Boho Chic Necklace. You put this on and no matter what you wear, it instantly gives the impression that you don’t care, you have your own style. I put this necklace together with stuff that I already have on hand; small round paper beads fashioned into rings and decorative ribbons.

I don’t know what it is with chains and rings must be the child in us

You can certainly dress it up or dress it down, mix and match with your other jewelry…..

I attached silk ribbon at the ends so it can be adjusted, you can wear it as a choker if you like.

This necklace can be anything but boring, don’t you think?

Repurposed Meets Recycled

One of my finds at the Pasadena Bead and Design Show were these vintage perfume bottles. I just get drawn to anything old and antique, I always imagine what kind of person owned this piece and wearing them somehow transports you to that time and place. I must have been one of those ladies in waiting in my previous life

I wire wrapped small round beads with rose quarts for the necklace chain, to have more of that vintage feel. I can imagine the Victorian ladies rolling paper beads.

I love how this came out, specially when worn.

I added the feather and fan charms, there is so much going on in this necklace.

Finds At The Pasadena Bead Show

The Pasadena Bead and Design Show is held twice area in the beautiful city of Pasadena, California. I am fortunate to live just 30 minutes away, Kayla and I spent a day just looking, getting ideas and talking with talented jewelry makers and artists. One of the exhibits there is by fiber artist Barbara de Jounge, and what intrigued me the most is the recycled necklaces.

Barbara also works with wools and makes eclectic cutting edge designs. The necklace on the right is made out of felted wool, and on your left is made out of safety pins, sorry guys it is so hard to take a picture when you have no control of the lights.

We have concluded the Paper Bead Trade and I’d say that it was successful because of all the nice people who participated, who stayed committed to the project with enthusiasm and genuine interest in each others work.
