Golden Paper Beads

Posted on Apr 15, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 13 comments

I received a strand of these big chunky gold  paper beads that my sister made out of Johnny Walker box.  Like me, when she looks at paper or boxes she is imagining how they will look like when they are made into beads.  They look heavy but you know they’re very light.  I imagine, that even if you make them with the metal paper bead roller, you would need stronger hands and really tacky glue to hold them together.  I had fun today, trying to decide which bead would go with them.  I am hoping you can help me?

I put it side by side with gold finished bead which is expensive at $6.00 a piece and it looks just as nice.

I am thinking of making it into a necklace and here are my choices of beads that can go with it.

Knotted Paper Beads Necklace

Posted on Apr 13, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

The strips of paper that Filipino Women painstakingly rolled into beautiful paper beads come in beautiful vibrant colors and I am always pleasantly surprised when I open my packages from them.  Isn’t it neat that you don’t know what you get each time?  Kind of reminds me of Tom Hanks movie only with paper beads ” Life is like a strand of paper beads, you don’t know what you’re going to get ” 🙂  Look how pretty these are:

I picked out these purple ones and put knots in between the beads, just like knotting pearls, using a thicker silk chord.

This short necklace, meant to be worn high up on the neck and can be doubled up to be worn as a bracelet.

If you have question on “how-to” leave me a comment here, I read all your comments.  Thank you for stopping by.

I received a shipment of paper beads from Philippines yesterday 250 lbs!  I slept late last night and was not able to post yesterday.  I have to inspect each strand one by one!  I had fun really looking at each one of them.  Probably the next few days I will be sharing with you the unique colors that I will find.

Hana-Ami Inspired Flower Motif

This flower motif using olive-shaped paper beads and seed beads is inspired by Deborah Roberti of Aroundthebeadingtable.  It is called Hana-Ami, I think it means woven flower.  Kayla C made a few of these to be made into a pendant or bracelet later on.

Here’s Part 1 and Part 2 of our own interpretation of Deborah’s Hana-Ami motif.

Multi Strand Paper Beads Necklace

Posted on Apr 7, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 2 comments

When I saw this antique copper chains, I thought it would be a nice to mix it with brightly colored olive shaped paper beads. The vibrant magazine colors of the olive shaped paper beads accent the antique copper chain extremely well. The browns and burgundys really stand out in this necklace. Of course you can not miss the all sorts of bright colors, that really give this necklace a summery feel.

The oxidized chain or any kind of antiqued chain, would look good with the paper beads.
