Beads big and small from places near and far have all been sorted out packed and shipped today! It was a little bit of a challenge, we had to equally divide up the beads and made sure that everyone gets a little bit of everything. Kayla, I think did a good job

In your kit, you will get paper beads from all the participants, some painted beads from Kayla and me, some random filler beads, elastic and some memory wire. Here’s an example of what Kayla made with just two-loop memory wire.

So now, you have the task of putting it together and making it your own. I hope you will like it and have fun with it as much as we did!

Color of Fall-Paper Bead Trade

A few bead traders have already signed up for our Color Of Fall Paper Bead Trade, and I will leave this post open until Friday to give a chance to those new visitors to our blog. I will continue to update this post each day with new fall jewelry ideas and paper beads with fall colors. How does it work? To make instructions easier to digest, here’s a little poem for you

Make Paper Beads of different size and shapes

with the color of fall

Twenty to Thirty should be plenty

You will then send it to me

To be stirred into a most colorful brew

A dash of orange, brown and yellow

It will look like a rainbow

It will then be sent back to you

In a pretty little bow

When you get your beads you can make it into a necklace or a bracelet, let your imagination take a flight! Here is an example of bracelets, wire wrapped with gold swarovski crystals. These Golden Paper Bead Bracelets is just right in time for the holidays.

The finished paper bead jewelry would be multi colored and different shapes as it will show case the different beads from all the participants. I always say this; paper beads jewelry can be elegant and I just treat paper beads as if it were real gems. Here is an example of paper beads mixed with montana blue swarovski crystals.

Silver bead caps were put in between to hold the paper beads on its side.

Paper beads can be fun, elegant, chic and definitely wearable!

Paper Bead Swap Theme – Color Of Fall

What do you think of Another Paper Bead Trade? I have been getting emails requesting for another paper bead swap. Meagan suggested a “Winter” theme read more of her comment here, I like that idea. Our First Paper Bead Swap was quite successful thanks to all of you who participated, I couldn’t have asked for a better group While we’re at it, why not plan for two paper bead trade? One with a fall theme and one with a winter theme? Well, I will let you decide. So now, table is open for suggestions! And to get us all inspired here’s a few Fall images:

When I hear the word Fall, oranges and browns come to mind.

Our feature for today are the handiwork of Ashley and Emily! It is exciting to me seeing the different things that “Paper Beaders”, (I think from now on this is what I would call anybody who is into making paper beads, agreed?) , made out of their kit. So, here’s what I got for you today.

We have concluded the Paper Bead Trade and I’d say that it was successful because of all the nice people who participated, who stayed committed to the project with enthusiasm and genuine interest in each others work. Simple is Beautiful

Hello paper bead traders Your kits were all sent out; paper beads, beads, elastic, ring and earring findings, and what goes on in your mind is hmmm, what to do with it. My suggestion; keep it simple. It is quite a challenge to design something when you have these different kinds of paper beads, from the Paper Bead Soup remember? The best thing to do, is just string a simple bracelet, this is our first Paper Bead Trade after all. I made the black paper beads painted with pink nail polish and mixed it with few paper beads from you guys. Kayla made very simple but beautiful set of elastic bracelets.

Put on the Creating Hat or Tiara and start creating…..making…..sharing…….laughing……..and loving every minute of it!

Precious Parcels – Bead Trade Update

I was supposed to do a tutorial on crocheting with beads (the easy way), but I just had to interrupt today’s post (or tomorrow), I am too excited when I received these packages today from you guys! Let me share with you the paper beads I got in the mail today, all eight of them!

These are from Aileen, I especially love the mauve color bead, the confetti looking ones and the peachy colored ones. They are all beautiful.

These ones are from Patty, she made them on her trip to Aruba, and they are made from travel brochures and she actually rolled these beads on the sand from the beach! How cool is that? You will be getting beads that has sand from the beaches in Aruba You can check out Patty’s other hobby at punchneedlechix.

These babies came all the way from France, Claire shares tutorials and all sorts of craft in her blog Papelhilo. I just love the bigger beads in caramel color which would be really good as focal beads.

I have received these barrel shaped paper beads from Kari, the red ones is so rich in color and the black and white patterned beads almost look like the zentangles that I did. They will look pretty with spacers in between them.

Gisela’s beads, are lacquered to a glass like finish! Do you want to share with us your technique They are beautiful, love the pastel colors and the big tube ones would make a nice focal bead as well. She sent us enough, I will make sure everybody get some of her beads.

Next, is Elim’s and sister Liz’s paper beads. You can see more of Elim’s paper bead creations here. She sent it to me strung, olive shaped ones, spacers and barrel shaped, Maybe Elim can tell us the type of paper she used, they are so pretty.

Liz’s beads is a nice cotton candy pink with swirls of chocolate brown, I just love the pink and brown combination, as you can see here:

Last but not least, is from Christine, what a mixture of lively colors; hot pink, baby pink, olives, maroon, aqua blue and I especially like the black bead.

So, there it is folks, some really nice paper beads each one hand rolled by you! Hopefully I will get the rest of the beads this week, irregardless I will be sending out your kits on July 15th. I will be sharing with you my sister’s beads as well, mine and Kayla’s.

Paper Bead Trade Idea #2

In case you’re wondering, Idea # 1 was yesterday’s post, Come Into My Garden Bracelet where we used buttons to add to our paper beads. The paper bead tube is the most common paper bead shape and versatile in the sense that it can be used for home decorating; curtains, vases, purses, etc., but can also be easily transformed into pretty jewelry. I love mixing paper beads with crystals and even gem stones and why not? Here’s our Idea #2 using 3/4 inch tube paper beads and cloisonne beads.

What you need for this project is: .8mm elastic, 3/4 inch paper bead tubes, 6/0 seed beads and cloisonne bead or any type of focal bead.

I cut about 10 inches of elastic and make sure to put a bead stopper at the end or string from a spool and make sure that the paper bead with the largest hole will be closest to the knot you will tie at the end, so that it’s easy for that bead to accommodate the knot.

You will then tie a square knot, right over left and left over right.

It looks beautiful even among real jewelry……It kind of remind me of Victorian ladies rolling paper beads.

Paper Bead Trade Idea # 3 will be the ring and earring set made out from zentangle paper beads.

A Button Ring

This is an impromptu post, I couldn’t wait, just have to share it with you. As I was organizing my beads preparing for the Paper Bead Trade,( by the way you can still email me or sign up, as long as it is on or before June 30th) I rediscovered my button collection. They are very inexpensive and comes in a bag, I think I got this in one of my trips to Michael’s, one of those things that “I just gotta have”

Flowers in my back yard is an inspiration.

This ring is very simple to make, it took me a whole 30 minutes to do it and if I have time I will do a video. I used really small paper beads. Tip: To make really small paper beads, cut triangles that measure 1/8 of an inch at the base and 8.5 inches long, using magazine or catalog pages. The result are tiny paper beads around 4-5 mm.

I used 24 gauge craft wire and put it through the button holes, strung the small round paper beads, twist the wire to form into a petal until you have 5 or 6 petals.

You finished it off by twisting the two wires together and curl it into a spiral to sit in the center of the ring.

You will then hot glue gun the button into a ring blank and voila!

I have a few people signed up for the Paper Bead Trade, for those of you who already have tons of paper beads you can mail them to me so we don’t have to be rushing. Thank you for the nice emails, truly appreciated.

First Paper Bead Trade 2010

I put in First on the title of this post because I am hoping that there will be a Second and Third Paper Bead Trade for this year at least. I am excited about this because it’s like going into a party with like minded individuals yet you don’t really have to go anywhere and just be in your pajamas sipping your morning coffee. A few of you have suggestions on how we are going to do this, I like Eveline’s idea the most (thank you for the suggesting this). So here it is ladies;

PAPER BEAD TRADE RULES:

First you will email me or leave me a comment (would be nice) to sign up – 16 participants is ideal. In your email you need to send me your full name and mailing address.
You will make 20-30 paper beads of different size if possible if not whatever size and shape you are comfortable making
You will then mail your paper beads to me – address is on the envelope you see in the image below
After I get all these nice paper beads of different sizes coming from all over the world, I will then sort it out, with Kayla’s help of course (she has a really good eye for color) and match it with beads that I have in my collection.
I will then mail you other participant/s paper beads with coordinating beads and findings (elastics and ear wires) for you to make into elastic bracelet and matching earrings (if you like).
You will take a photo of your finished creation and email them to me and post it in your blog or flickr to share with every one else.
You will have until July 15 to mail your paper beads to me. Note: not for me to receive it but for you to mail it, I realize that for those who are from another country that it will take probably 3 weeks for me to get it, just ordinary mail so you don’t have to pay for expensive postage.
This Paper Bead Trade is open until June 30th.

In the next day or so I will be posting examples of VERY simple bracelet and earrings that is beginner, beginner project.

After all this is just our first try at doing this right? If successful, then we can move on to bigger projects

Remember: There is no right or wrong way of doing paper beads, they are all unique and hand made, so please, please, do not be intimidated by this.

Tell your friends, we need to have at least 16 participants, my sister Joann is excited about this whole thing, it is her first time as well and if it make you feel better, she has never strung a single bracelet in her life, sorry Ann…

If you have questions, please feel free to email me, I read and answer all of them although I would prefer that you leave me a comment, other people might have a similar question.
