First Blush – day 6

Posted on Jan 6, 2011 in 365 Paper Bead Creations | 7 comments

Leaf beads usually come in leaf colors; green, brown, gold, silver…….I just love these vintage leaf charms in blush pink.  They are a part of my purchase from Pasadena Bead and Design Show two years ago.  Kayla and I are looking forward to going again next week not as exhibitors but just to “see and look” what they have.  I couldn’t seem to stop painting paper beads, why?  Because I can now, match any color that I like in paper beads!  Fort this project, I used pink blush acrylic paint, beige acrylic as primer, big round paper beads and nail art deco paint.

I love the shape of these big round beads, I can do so many things with them.

And here, is a short tutorial on it…..

I think this is my favorite color of pink, isn’t this what you call baby pink ?  At first it give you a flat or matted color, but after applying two coats of Vibrance, it took on a glossy finish.

I think my newly painted beads is just the perfect beads to go with these vintage leaf charms.

I just strung them into a .8mm elastic cord and voila!

I See Zebras-day 5

Posted on Jan 5, 2011 in 365 Paper Bead Creations | 6 comments

Animal prints I think never go out of style and the zebra print is the perfect black and white combination.  I use the big round beads and painted them white.  Using the Nail Art nail polish I just randomly drew black lines around the bead.

blog2

They don’t have to be perfect zebra stripes, once you draw them on the bead they will look like zebra prints.

blog5

I put inexpensive black Chinese crystals in between beads.

Your biggest investment is your time,  which makes this piece one of a kind!

Kayla took time off from her modeling duties, luckily my daughter Lyra was around and grudgingly agreed to put it on for me 🙂

Another extraordinary day!

Zebras In Pink Earrings-day 4

Posted on Jan 4, 2011 in 365 Paper Bead Creations | 5 comments

Last year I was obsessed with drawing petite doll faces when I joined Suzi Blu‘s Petite Dolls Class.  You know how you do something in excess and just get burn out?  That’s what happened with me but I did three dolls and one of them is the inspiration for this earrings.

I love doing the zebra prints because they are so simple to do!

My Petite Doll could have worn these 🙂

Now I understand why I have gotten so many requests for painted beads, makes the designing part more fun.

Painted Paper Beads

Posted on Dec 19, 2010 in Paper Bead Creations | 6 comments

Recently I got a request for painted paper beads, it is not exactly new to me because I have been painting them with nail polish.  How about painting them with acrylic paint?  You know they come in all colors imaginable, and you know what this means?  You can use any paper, any color and just paint them in your desired colors.  I am very excited about the whole idea of painting paper beads and so is my sister.  First, here’s a look at my inspiration….

blog6

Don’t you just love polka dots?  I am always drawn to anything with polka dots.  Let’s get started, your materials are:

paper beads preferably round big shapes

Acrylic paints in desired colors

brush

Vibrance – this works very well painted over the acrylic painted paper beads

blog1

You let the base color dry completely before applying the dots, do not glaze them yet.

blog2

Directions: You paint your paper bead, three or four coats of the acrylic paint and let it dry.  Let it dry between coats also.  And then, you apply the dots using bamboo skewer (the fun part).

blog3

Let is set for 2-3 hours and then give it a coat or two of Vibrance, by brushing it on the beads, this way you can take care of the little bubbles as they form on the beads by just smashing them with your brush.  The result?  Glossy beads:)

They look like candies or little bon bons, don’t you think?

blog7

I have a bracelet in mind with these beads so I also made white with pink dots beads.

Another fun filled Sunday 🙂
