Ocean’s Paradise Paper Bead Bracelet

Posted on Dec 14, 2009 in Paper Bead Creations | 4 comments

This is one of my absolute favorite bracelets. The vibrant blues, greens & browns remind me of the ocean.

The bracelet consists of a mix of  blue & green shades of India Glass beads, which gives this braclet it’s beautiful chunky look. It is accompanied with bluish colored, Diamond-Shaped paper beads, adding a casual, earthy touch.

I stranded the differnt beads onto three differnt pieces of black wax cord and seperated each bead with three knots. I joined the three finished strands with a coiled connector on one side. I decided to braid them together to give the bracelet a more joined, clunky look and then ended it with another coiled connector.

Paper Gems-Hand Made from the Philippines

Posted on Apr 8, 2009 in Paper Bead Creations | Comments Off on Paper Gems-Hand Made from the Philippines

I talked to my sister Joann today; in fact I talk to her everyday about paper beads.  Well, we talk about other stuff but since couple of months ago, it has been mostly paper beads.  She takes pride in making them look like something that takes on a transformation (not simply rolled paper!).  I call it “paper beads for grown ups.”  And I have been thinking of a better name for these rolled strips of paper.  They don’t fit into other categories, like glass beads or crystals.   Nor do they fit solely into broad categories, like “Hand made crafts.”  So I came up with this idea of calling them “Paper Gems.”  This would get a little getting use to, but I think it’s appropriate, and helps describe the difference between the fun craft for children and what is  amazing jewelry for adults!  Here is a finished two strand necklace that Kayla made.  Kayla is my assistant, and she has a natural talent for coordinating colors.

The Necklette – paper bead necklace convertable to bracelet

Posted on Mar 26, 2009 in Paper Bead Creations | 3 comments

I can say I have come a long way turning paper beads into jewelry – rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets. I look at the different colors and patterns of the paper beads and my mind races along with what beautiful jewelry I can make out of them.

Today, I came up with the Necklette – a necklace with magnetic closure that can be easily converted into a bracelet. I find that it is easier to string them with a silk cord and clam tips – once you have practiced doing this, you will be able to make one in 15 minutes (as long as you already have your color pattern). I think this is a great item for fund raisers and craft shows.

Materials:
22 pcs. Paper beads (for a 26 inch necklace)
26 pcs. 6 mm firepolish crystal (or any 6mm bead)
#6 silk cord (color to match your beads)
GS hypocement glue or clear nail polish
2 clam tips
1 small magnetic clasp

Step by step procedure or youtube video.
