The Red Rocks Paper Bead Necklace

Last weekend I took a trip to Las Vegas to visit my son and his fiancee who is expecting.  My husband and I stayed at the Red Rock Hotel and Spa.  Andrea, my son’s fiancee loves hiking and is quite familiar with the Red Rocks Canyon about a mile from the hotel, so she took me there.  Although this is not my first time at the Red Rock Hotel, this is my first time to see the Red Rocks Canyon, I’m sure glad I did, it was beautiful!  To remind me of this trip I made this two strand paper bead necklace.

The materials for this necklace: white 7-8mm paper beads (Aubreys Beads), tube paper beads, brown colored stabilized chips, firepolish crystals and two focal bead stones.

Paper Bead Necklace inspired by the Red Rocks Canyon

The Red Rocks Canyon is more beautiful in person.  We wonder why are the canyons red?  600 million years ago, the Red Rocks Canyon was the bottom of the deep ocean basin.  Isn’t that amazing?  Nature did its work oxidizing the minerals and resulted in these beautiful colors of red, orange and tan colored rocks.

One of the animals that live in the Canyon are burros who look much like donkeys about half the size of a horse.  These animals are well adapted to the high temperature of the Mojave Desert.  I was hoping we would see one but apparently they are active in the early morning and late afternoons.
