…..and everything nice. It is fun finding interesting patterns in a scrapbook paper and you wonder how would this look like rolled into paper beads? Smaller prints would show up best in the finished bead like this scrap booking paper with a lattice design. For those of you who already mastered cutting the paper in triangles, you can skip the 2nd image.

The paper itself is 12 x12, the triangles are 1/2 inch at the base and 12 inches long. You can make the base 3/4 of an inch or one inch, depending on the size of the bead you want.

Kayla used the metal roller in rolling the beads and it came out really nice.

And the fun part? Putting them together. I think it will look really nice with these dyed mother of pearl rings. They are very inexpensive even if they are from mother of pearl and they are available in your local craft stores or bead stores.

We’ll see how they will turn out as necklace.

Poster boards usually come in 22 x 28 size and they are great for making paper beads. The fiber of the paper is strong and they make thick beads. That being said, my Paper To Paper Bead Idea # 4 is white poster board. I marked and cut the paper on it’s short end, with the measurement 1 cm by 22 inches long. Part of the appeal of paper bead making is the unexpected out come, just like “a box of chocolates, you’ll never know what you’re going to get” right?

Triangle strips: 1 cm by 22 cm

I find the bamboo roller to work better with thicker paper because you can insert the strip of triangle in between the bamboo and then roll.

I was surprised of the outcome, it came out more like saucer shaped 5/8 of an inch in diameter. I was hoping for a more round shape.

I love using nail polish for projects like bracelet and earrings because of the variety of colors and they always have fancy names, this particular nail color is “glass slippers” that just makes me smile.

I let it dry in front of an electric fan and coated it with Vibrance and let it dry again. I brushed the glaze on instead of dipping it.

I made about 13 beads enough for a bracelet and maybe a pair of earrings.

It turned out really nice after all. I took my beads into my studio and start looking for findings that will go well with it. This is what I found, what do you think?

I see how you like the Beads In Orbit bracelet, and some of you have decided to make this type of design for the bead trade. Here’s is another example using three beading wire instead of two and I am calling it Saturn’s Moons in paper beads and a video tutorial of Kayla showing you how.

The video shows you how to make this bracelet using the two strand method.

Like I said on previous posts, I will continue to feature different designs to give you ideas and then we will decide (by vote!) which one we will be making for the trade on October 23rd.

I also like this style, it shows off the paper beads really well! For the trade participants – wire and findings will be included in your kit so you don’t have to worry about that. There is a catch though, you have to make your bracelet for the show and tell

A few bead traders have already signed up for our Color Of Fall Paper Bead Trade, and I will leave this post open until Friday to give a chance to those new visitors to our blog. I will continue to update this post each day with new fall jewelry ideas and paper beads with fall colors. How does it work? To make instructions easier to digest, here’s a little poem for you

Make Paper Beads of different size and shapes

with the color of fall

Twenty to Thirty should be plenty

You will then send it to me

To be stirred into a most colorful brew

A dash of orange, brown and yellow

It will look like a rainbow

It will then be sent back to you

In a pretty little bow

When you get your beads you can make it into a necklace or a bracelet, let your imagination take a flight! Here is an example of bracelets, wire wrapped with gold swarovski crystals. These Golden Paper Bead Bracelets is just right in time for the holidays.

The finished paper bead jewelry would be multi colored and different shapes as it will show case the different beads from all the participants. I always say this; paper beads jewelry can be elegant and I just treat paper beads as if it were real gems. Here is an example of paper beads mixed with montana blue swarovski crystals.

Silver bead caps were put in between to hold the paper beads on its side.

Paper beads can be fun, elegant, chic and definitely wearable!

You still have until September 26th to join in the Paper Bead Trade – Fall Theme. Just left me a comment here or email me.

I had a most relaxing, fun-filled Sunday playing with paper. I am sharing this with you so you can try it, and see for yourself how much fun it is! I had so much left over craft paint from previous projects and just have to use them before they harden up and then I would not be able to use them anymore. What I had in mind is just to put layers of paint on a piece of paper, magazine cover, brown paper bag whatever kind of paper that you want to re cycle and make them into paper beads.

First, I picked out a paper bag from an ice cream place, a friend visiting brought ice cream cake in this bag:

And no, I did not eat all the ice cream by myself although I am totally capable of doing that, in case you’re wondering it was butter pecan

Second, prepare your work space by covering it with old newspaper and tape it down so it does not move around as you work.

Reminder: Do not discard the paper, save it for next time. The more paint gets to it, the nicer it will look and can be used for other projects someday.

Third, gather your paint, glitters if you have some, stencils or stamps, tissue paper or paper towel (which is what I used), brushes and sponges.

Then let the fun begin……

Procedure (in a nutshell): cut the paper bag open and lay it on your table, paint it white or gesso if you have, brush watered down glue on the area you want the separated paper towel (or tissue) to go in, paint it with layers of different colors (on top would be your dominant color), stencil or stamp with design if you like, paint glitter paint if that is the effect you like on your paper.

Voila! This will make nice scrap book pages or journal pages

I used these paint on it and stencil on the bottom part, I was too lazy to do it all over but I guess it came out better this way.

The ice cream bag was big enough, the small part of it that the paper towel did not cover, I painted it a different color, beige/pinkish tone.

This is about 36 inches (length of the ice cream bag cut open), and cut out three strip of triangles and made it into paper beads!

I imagine a brown paper bag would turn out just as nice. So go ahead, play……….paint………have fun……

I like anything free-form, don’t you? There is free form embroidery, free form crochet……..it implies freedom to do where your imagination takes you. I like the word free flowing even better, it suggests spontaneity. These last few days, I wire wrapped a lot of shells, taking some time off by the beach I wanted to share with you how I did this and was hoping one video would do it. Well, I ended up with three videos, I hate leaving a few things out, so here it is.

It is called a 4 wire, wire wrapped because you would be using four wires. Some of the shells I painted them with glitter some, I left it in it’s natural color.

The materials you need: 28 gauge (small and lightweight like sea urchin), 26 gauge for most shells, 24 gauge for heavier objects. A round nose pliers for curling the excess wire and a flush cutter.

You can put beads like pearls or paper beads which what I did in some of the shells I wrapped. The second part of the video is making the bail and finishing off the ends.

They are great for pendants and for me a good accompaniment with paper beads. Why? Paper beads look a lot like shells, don’t you think?

I had fun taking pictures of them by the beach, and this little guy almost got away from me, I had to fish it out of the water

One of the things I did that came out really nice is the ammonite, I don’t know if I can part with it.

I experimented and crocheted at the base of this turbo shell, and I just love also the lacy effect of the crocheted wire – for crochet, you need to use the 28 gauge wire.

This is a follow-up on yesterday’s post on zentangles. It is another way to make paper beads, this time not the usual magazine pages but from a doodled page. First, I doodled on a long bond paper, this would come out different if you will use a heavier paper like construction paper. Then, I cut them up into strips and rolled them into paper beads using the metal paper bead roller.

The measurement for the triangles is 1/2 inch at the base and 14 inches long, the size of a long bond paper.

Here’s the video……

They look like spotted eggs, don’t you think?

I think this can be made into a guys necklace with black beads.

Perfect jewelry to go with the black and white outfit!

And the fun part, is turning it into wearable art Another day of turning the ordinary to extraordinary.

Here’s the tutorial on how to make cone shaped paper beads as promised    One might think that you cut the paper differently………it is cut exactly the same way as you would your regular triangle strip of paper.  The trick is pushing the bottom part of the paper bead towards the center, as shown in this video!  So, let’s get ready with your magazine pages, yard stick or a long straight edge wood (I used to measure with a plank of wood left over from a remodel I did in my dining room).  You can use a heavier card stock paper like this used poster for example;

I did the measurements on the back of the poster; the base is 1/2 inch and the triangles will look like this before you cut them up:

Then you cut them up into strips, you can use scissors or exacto knife

And then you start rolling as shown here:

An then you let them dry on tooth picks and take pictures

And the fun part, making them into jewelry, that would have to be another day.
